Saudade (n): Portuguese /saʊˈdɑːdə/ (saa-oooo-dädge). An untranslatable word.

It describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic and profound melancholic longing. The re-assemblage of feelings, experiences, places, or events, triggering the senses.

Both precondition and consequence.

How the past preys on you,

A perpetual shadow.

A phantom limb.

Thinking about how history reveals itself in its materiality, in signals and absences. The act of noticing - a shadow for example, the projection of the sun-light’s interaction with some thing 8 minutes ago - complicates notions of the past and present, and presence.

The shadows we see in the present are pre-existing, revealing an infrastructure. They are consequence to the meeting of two tempo-realities, a collaboration between entities and tempos, stitching us to the soil. Consequence to time moving, lapsing, passing.

To see a shadow is to recognize time, to notice time. They speak of a pre-existence, an ever-presence, that dips in and out of notice-ability.

Dead grass, baled, wrapped in blue plastic string - with a noticing - might be telling us what it was, how it changed, and what it might become.

      Straw bales - objects in-stage, existing in-time.

To separate the sheep from the goats, to delineate by moral judgement

By Virtue and its signals. The valuing process.

Live Laugh Love but make it virtuous.

If all the worlds a stage, its with-in

A never-ending simulacra theatre.

Framework through which to see

made of matter in ruin.

The colosseum became a local source

for building materials.
